BR41

Objectives

The BR41 project aims to convert a decommissioned drinking-water storage tank into a stormwater retention basin. The works are being carried out from June to December 2026 and involve specialised civil-engineering techniques, including underpinning operations.

The project also includes the diversion of underground utilities along Route Einstein, scheduled for September 2026. Given the immediate proximity of the CERN Hotel, particular attention is being paid to limiting noise, dust, vibrations and other construction-related disturbances. A dedicated monitoring system has also been implemented to detect and assess any potential movement of the hotel structure throughout the works.

This operation forms part of CERN’s broader programme to ensure the compliance and long-term resilience of stormwater management infrastructure across the Meyrin site, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.

Disturbance

Due to the proximity of the CERN Hotel, construction noise may occur between 8.30 a.m. and 7.00 p.m. The project team is in regular contact with the hotel’s operations team to coordinate the works and minimise disruption to guests and staff.

For the works along Route Einstein, dedicated communications will be issued through CERN Campus to inform site users in advance of the temporary reduction of the road to a single traffic lane.
