The adjoining buildings 180, 183 and 190 are used mainly for magnet assembly and house various workshops for measurements, detector integration and manufacturing. Built between 1970 and 1974, they are large rectangular buildings made up of steel frames on a concrete slab.
The waterproofing of the roofs has now become defective and renovation work is urgently needed as the numerous recurring leaks would otherwise eventually have a direct impact on the technical installations and on the operations under way in the buildings. Moreover, the poor thermal insulation of the façades has led to poor working conditions inside the building and to high energy consumption.
The façades and roofs to be renovated represent a total surface area of approximately 9200 m2 and 13 100 m2 respectively. The work will include the removal and disposal of the elements containing asbestos; the installation of new high-quality waterproofing on self-supporting roof panels; safety- related installations on the roofs, including smoke extraction skylights; the installation of new ventilated façades; the installation of glazing and doors; and all necessary finishing and repair work.
The work is organised in such a way that the buildings remain watertight throughout the renovations, enabling activities to continue and protecting existing equipment.
