ISOLDE

A part of the work carried out at the ISOLDE facility, beam dumps are required to absorb protons beams.

The existing beam dumps are in need of modification for the ongoing use and upgrades of ISOLDE.

Civil engineering studies are necessary to define the DISMANTLING phase to mitigate the risk associated to radioprotection aspects for this worksite.

Civil engineering feasibility studies associated to the project, namely in the execution of an external Consultant contract for the study of the different options that will be defined by the Project (including dismantling and construction work). We are also defining all agreed studies that are being required in order to provide a realistic and sound cost estimate of the civil engineering elements of the project (i.e. geotechnical studies, water permeation, etc…)

We are working in parallel with the other WPs in order to confirm the feasibility of the civil engineering associated with proposed technical solutions, cross-checks constraints and propose a civil engineering cost estimate of each of them.

Finally, we are also analyzing the possibility to remove the earth and concrete destruction on top of the ISOLDE target areas as part of the work to evaluate the feasibility of enhancing the each for backfill. They will be in charge of finding a temporary storage for the removed soil and to perform the final evacuation, as activated or not, waste of the remainder earth in collaboration with EN-HE and HSE-RP Groups.

• New ISOLDE experimental hall and target stations would be the space presently taken by the recuperation hall 133 to make use of the existing TT70 tunnel and underground structures.
• Construction and installation work of a new hall and target stations can be carried out in parallel with physics at the existing ISOLDE facility.
• Possibility to connect AD and n-TOF, enabling promising future physics.

Civil engineering feasibility studies associated to the project:

• Initial 3D model created
• Geometrical and structural design of the underground and surface floors.
• General and details drawing of the hall, underground installations, and connections with TT70 tunnel.
• Raw cost estimate of the civil engineering works.
