Located in Building 128, the cutting service by CERN stores offers advanced cutting operations for a variety of materials and shapes. With a park of 12 cutting machines, they cater to diverse client needs efficiently and precisely.
In the cutting machine park, there are 2 Water Jet Cutting Machines which are dedicated to cutting sheets, requiring DXF format plans and the cost is 160 CHF/hour, 5 Band Saws for precise and efficient material cutting, 2 Wood Saws that are specialized for clean and precise wood cuts, 2 Shears that are ideal for rapid cutting of sheets and thin materials and 1 Circular Saw that will be soon replaced for improved service. Moreover, they handle a variety of shapes and materials, including solid and hollow rounds (0.1 mm to 300 mm), sheets (up to 1500 mm x 3000 mm), angles and I-beams (IPN), and a variety of materials such as steel, stainless steel (304L and 316LN), copper, brass, plastic, Teflon, wood, and more.
In addition, they manage the reception, integration, and direct orders of standardized items, raw materials, and chemicals. They also oversee daily order preparations, ensuring efficient material handling and delivery. They support special projects like HL-LHC Cold masses, LHCb RF Boxes, and CMS Overhead crane materials.
This SCE service is open from Monday to Thursday: 7:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. and mornings on Fridays. For inquiries, you can contact them via Snow (FE Raw materials) or email at SCE-SSC-S-C-Section-SC-Team-standardization@cern.ch.
