The SSC group has started a pilot to use a cleaning system that will enable the cleaning teams to reduce the use of chemicals at CERN.
The system in question is called Ozone water treatment and works like a natural cleaner. It reduces contaminants through ozone’s oxidative strength. The cleaning process begins with the creation of ozone in a generator which is then injected into water, and immediately starts oxidizing and eliminating contaminants, such as bacteria and rust. This represents an easy-to-use system that leaves no traces and is very effective on any kind of floor.
For the moment, this system is being tested on the Prévessin site with excellent results and it is scheduled to be used in Meyrin by the end of the year. This initiative integrates the SCE Department’s continuous quest to implement eco-friendly solutions for CERN’s needs.
