On the 6 March 2023 the SCE team that manages the renovation project, our Department Head, Mar Capeans, and Joachim Mnich, the Director for Research and Computing sector attended the first stone ceremony launching the works for the renovation of the CERN Library.

A time capsule was added inside the new wall replacing the previous entrance. This capsule contains photos of the Library over the past decades, as well as personal messages from a range of library users and librarians, many of whom joined the RCS and SCE team for the ceremony. The capsule, which also includes the key holder used for many years to open the desk inside the old library, is now sealed inside the wall, and we hope for future generations to discover it!
