Building 184 extension project, managed by SCE-PPM, aimed to bring the premises and accesses to the CERN Radioactive Waste Treatment Centre up to standards. In particular, this involves relocating the conventional facilities (offices and cloakrooms) outside the radiological perimeter.
The extension provides a new, bright and modern workspace, with a technical basement including changing areas and showers, and 3 levels of office space.
A total of 245 m2 of office space has been recreated replacing obsolete facilities, now demolished (barracks 6184 and 6787).
The dismantling works, which were complex due to power supply and distribution networks that ran underground from the circular technical gallery in the ISR area, began in September 2023, followed by an asbestos removal operation. The building began to emerge from the ground in January 2024.
The effective and constructive collaboration with of other technical services and units (SCE-SAM, HSE, the fire brigade, IT and fire detection) helped cope with technical issues. Keys have been handed over in July.
Let’s wish the HSE-RP Group all the best for their move into this new comfortable and safe work environment.
