PCC

Well before the energy crisis, CERN has been actively working to reduce its electricity consumption as part of its sustainability strategy.

To cover the growing computing energy demand coming with new scientific projects, the new Prevessin Data Center (PCC) will provide computing resources up to 12 megawatts of IT load. Thanks to stringent energy quality specifications (reported and enhanced by the international press), and the future connection to a new heating plant designed by SCE to recover the residual heat from the PCC to heat the Prevessin site, the installation of such equipment will help the CERN achieve its environmental commitments.

The PCC civil works have made good progress. During the last week of March 2023, the PCC has been connected to the electrical network. The facade installation has reached 70% progress with ongoing assembly at the main entrance. We hope this entrance will please the eyes.

Installation of large adiabatic towers on the roof platform is in progress. Fan walls in IT rooms on the upper floor and 85% of all mechanical and cable trays are installed.

Currently at the peak of activity the PCC aims to be operational by November 2023.
