The SAM Future Studies (FS) section has signed a collaboration agreement with the Einstein Telescope Organisation (ETO) to provide support in the civil engineering activities required for a Technical Design Report (TDR).

FS provides site-independent support for the Einstein Telescope Engineering Department. John Osborne and Tamara Bud were invited to Sardinia to attend a site visit, Italy being one of the possible sitings of the Einstein Telescope (ET). ET is a proposed underground infrastructure to host a third-generation, gravitational-wave observatory that will make possible, for the first time, to explore the Universe through gravitational waves along its cosmic history up to the cosmological dark ages, shedding light on open questions of fundamental physics and cosmology.

They visited a disused mine which is currently housing geomatic monitoring sensors for an experiment affiliated with INFN, a geomatic survey station, and held meetings with ETO colleagues concerned with the italian site proposal.
