CERN Auto-Stop Initiative: Hitchhiking Stations on site

As of Monday 16 June 2025, SCE department is launching a new hitchhiking pilot initiative at CERN, starting Monday 16 June 2025. This initiative encourages voluntary shared transport between the Meyrin and Prévessin sites, aiming to reduce single-occupancy vehicle use and enhance inter-site connections.

Three hitchhiking stations have been installed:

  • Meyrin

    • Road Fermi (near Bldgs. 376–377–378)

    • Road Pauli (near Entrance B and Road Einstein)

  • Prévessin

    • Road Adams (near the site entrance)

Both CERN and private vehicles can participate. However, CERN vehicles may only pick up passengers within the fenced area, and all riders must carry a valid CERN access badge. Drivers using the inter-site tunnel should confirm their passengers have the required permit.

To refine and potentially expand the programme, users are invited to provide feedback via QR-code surveys available at each station.
