An inviting new spot at CERN awaits! With fresh greenery, new amenities, and sustainable features, the transformed Square Van Hove is ready to welcome you.
With the completion of the Science Gateway and its newly planted forest of 400 trees, as well as the transformation of Building 33 into the CERN Community Support Centre, Square Van Hove has been beautifully reintegrated into the heart of CERN’s fenced campus, for the benefit of the entire CERN community.
Members of the SCE department, in charge of landscaping and architectural integration, have designed a modest yet beneficial upgrade of the area. This project has been developed in the frame of the “Outdoor spots” initiative, a new vision for exterior workspace design at CERN which builds on the importance of informal exchanges, collaboration and well-being.
Landscaping, architectural and infrastructure improvements were carried out from September to November, allowing December for the new greenery to establish. Square Van Hove officially opened on January 1, 2025. The redesigned space features new lighting, greenery, clear signage, and comfortable outdoor furniture—perfect for working, gathering, enjoying a picnic, or finding a peaceful moment among CERN’s iconic scientific equipment. A new accessible path, modern bike racks with a capacity for 40 bicycles and two e-chargers to support CERN’s growing fleet of electric vehicles make this a welcoming, sustainable spot for the community.
Join us in making the most of this inviting new space!
