DEPARTMENTAL OPERATION AND DEVELOPMENT

SCE-DOD MANDATE

The mission of the Departmental Operation and Development (DOD) Group is to support the management of the SCE Department.

The Group is divided into competency units in charge of the departmental safety, administration and planning responsibilities, CERN's Security Service, and the Office of Strategy Management:

  • The Security Unit provides and maintains the infrastructure and services to ensure the security of any person entering the domains of the Organization, their properties and the properties of the Organization

  • The Office of Strategy Management supports the Department long-term planning and alignment, develops for all SCE Groups common project management processes, knowledge management and communication, best practice sharing, and leads efforts on strategic SCE domains which connect with the expertise in several units

  • The Future Studies (FS) Section under the Office of Strategy Management coordinates the civil engineering and infrastructure studies for future large-scale physics projects such as the Future Circular Collider (FCC), Linear Collider (LC), Muon Collider (MC) and Physics Beyond Colliders (PBC) studies. In conjunction with other SCE Groups, it guides the studies from conception, feasibility and technical design towards construction preparation. Tunnel studies include knowledge of existing technologies and cost experiences in industry. Often these studies require international collaboration with external institutions, and this Section makes sure that future studies are done in a coherent way, both with the past and across the laboratory.
