The Lost and Found Service supports the central registration of lost, disappeared or stolen property and is also responsible for the registration, storage and retrieval of found objects.
In case of theft or loss:
To declare the loss or theft of an object inside CERN or the loss or theft of an object owned by CERN, please ill in the following form:
Reporting a lost or stolen access card:
Any problem concerning access cards and possible refusal of access to an area, building or experiment at CERN should be reported to: firstname.lastname@example.org
After the declaration has been made, the individual concerned must go to the Access Card Service to obtain a new card. The old card is then deactivated.
All found objects must be handed in to the Service Desk (Meyrin site, building 55, 2nd floor), during CERN working days from 7.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. Outside these hours, to the security guard on duty at Gate B, Building 533 - Meyrin site.
A found object report will then be recorded on a ticket with the following information:
- place where it was found
- date found
- name of the depositor
- detailed description of the object
If the owner is identified, the Service Desk will contact the owner directly.
CERN allows a time limit for the safekeeping of lost and found items, depending on their nature. For example, official documents, payment/travel documents, medical certificates, medicines and any health-related equipment will be kept for 15 days. After this period, these lost and found items will be sent to the competent authorities, the issuing bodies or disposed of.
All other items will be kept for a period not exceeding 13 months.
