As the B60 renovation is moving forward, with the full interior and façade demolition just starting, all the floors of the building have been emptied of furniture and material. Most furniture has been re-installed in B42, replicating the offices, but some has been transported to the SCE Storage, Recuperation and Sales Service. This service is responsible for storing, recycling and selling all CERN equipment and material which are no longer of use for the Organization.
The furniture transferred to building 133 will either be stored for reuse at CERN in the future, either for sale to individuals if the quantities are large, and recycled if the furniture is in poor condition. Regarding the tables and the chairs from the famous Charpak room, they were stored for reuse in building 60 once renovated. The interior blinds in good condition were recovered and are already being reused CERN-wide.
This strategy follows our ambitions to minimize the impact on the environment, thus giving any equipment a new lease of life or recycle it properly!
