On Monday 25 November 2024, it will be a pleasure to give the floor of the SCE Technical Seminar to Andreas Salzburger, a Senior Researcher working at CERN since 2001, and currently section leader of Offline Software for the ATLAS experiment.
His talk will give us a high level view on modern experimental particle physics with a focus on the LHC and HL-LHC program. It will highlight some of the challenges that needed to be overcome to enable measurements such as the discovery of the Higgs Boson, with a focus on resolving the data tsunami that comes out from the experiment, in order to understand what actually happened when the initial particles of the beams collide.
Besides the technological, scientific and computational challenges, also some insight in the human complexity will be given, on orchestrating collaborations of thousands of physicists to work together on achieving a common goal. And finally, and unavoidably in these days, it will touch upon experiences, potential and pitfalls that artificial intelligence can play in this quest.
Don't miss out on this outstanding talk! Join for coffee at 13h45 or for the lecture at 14:00 in the Main Auditorium.
