The project B777 continues to advance at good speed with the design conceptual phase now behind.
The Phase 1 preliminary design was completed in September 2023 by the architectural and engineering firms responsible for the design contract. This important phase incorporates all project requirements, laying down and agreeing on the main architectural aspects, freezing the building geometry, reviewing the scope of the building’s interior design such as offices, common areas, interior finishings, as well as the facades and outdoor landscaping. High level technical choices on energy strategies, building functionality, HVAC and electrical systems, integration of the building services into the site’s environment were also decided upon during this initial phase.
The next phase 2, the so-called design development stage, is ongoing until February 2024. This phase consolidates the building internal layouts, refining the strategy for integration of technical services into the building’s architecture, finalising detailed architectural and technical choices. In addition, the project will look at expanding the level of detail on the drawings for each technical trade, verifying the conformity of the design with French regulations and CERN’s requirements. This design will be used as the basis to prepare the building permit’s drawing folder. CERN, in collaboration with the consultants and final users, also gathered more detailed requirements to refine the functional and technical aspects for the restaurant and laboratories.
Start of works is anticipated for end of summer 2025. For comprehensive details about this project and its developments, please check the dedicated website.
